This essential component for any calm down corner helps students use Conscious Discipline to deal with emotions. Using this self- regulation board, students learn to move to a safe place, activate the parasympathetic nervous system through breaths, identify their emotions, choose a healthy coping mechanism, and finally solve the problem. This board builds many social-emotional skills as well as the ability to cope independently.
You can use this tool without prep by using the digital option (see
video preview) or by having students cut out and glue relevant circles
to their board. To make the resource physical and reusable (see video
preview), cut out and laminate the circles, placing velcro on the back.
Choose either the one page board and laminate with velcro or use a
piece of poster board that can also hold both the prompts and the
option circles. Use any of the six color options (one B&W) that all
come in both assembly options. There are 24 coping options, 12
breathing options, 16 emotion options (one emoji set and one photo
set), and 9 problem solving options targeting various ages. Use the
ones relevant to your classroom or create your own using the blank
circles.
