Journaling is an evidence-based technique to increase self-awareness, reduce stress, resolve conflict, and build social-emotional skills. Reserving three to five minutes a day for journaling is a great and easy way to integrate SEL. I created this collection of prompts for teachers looking for high-quality, no-prep reflection questions that are directly aligned to CASEL and Illinois state standards for social-emotional learning. Prompts are designed to spark conversation if you wish to make time for that.
Each slide contains a different prompt. Copy and paste the slide into your Google Drive presentation, display the single slide or download the presentation as PDF or PPT to integrate it into however you display information for students. The slides are designed to flow thematically and can be used in order to cover an entire school year. Alternatively, you can reorder them or pick which to use if you do not wish to use the prompts daily. All slides are editable and there is a template to create your own. Students can record their responses in a digital or paper journal, fill out the worksheet slide or simply discuss.
Includes 185 prompts in six standards-aligned categories:
- Community (35 prompts)
- Self-Awareness (35 prompts)
- Emotions (35 prompts)
- Relationships (35 prompts)
- Problem Solving and Decision Making (35 prompts)
- End of the Year (10 prompts)
Broaching topics like friendship, size of the problem, goal setting, self-care, academic habits, emotional awareness, coping mechanisms, communication skills, self-reflection, community building, compassion, conflict resolution, diversity, peer pressure, gossip, healthy/unhealthy relationships, screen time, social media, bullying, personal space, and more!
