As school-based mental health professionals, we often operate as "clinical islands" within the massive machinery of the education system. When a student in crisis discloses a secret, a parent demands a file, or a principal asks for session notes, the "right" move isn't always clear. We are caught in the crosswinds of FERPA, HIPAA, IDEA, and our own professional codes of ethics. In this legal triage workshop, we move beyond textbook definitions to address the real-world collisions between student privacy and school safety. Through actual stories from the field and "What Would You Do?" scenarios, we will demystify the legal standards for emergency disclosures, consent for services, record privacy, and more.
