It was 2020 and the whole world shut down. If you know me, you know that I can't sit still for long. My friend and I started dreaming about private practice. She brought a ton of clinical expertise to the table and I had a background in medical billing (isn't it funny how life aligns?!) plus the unshakable persistence needed to figure out how to master the business side of private practice.
Fun fact: that friend and my former principal called me Siri because if there's one thing I'm going to do, it's problem solve and find answers. I certainly put that skill to the test, spending hundreds of hours during lockdown on my very own self-guided mini-MBA.

I learned insurance credentialing, website building, branding, bookkeeping, hiring, and a whole lot more by applying a brute-force approach and making a whole lot of mistakes that I learned and grew from.

After five years, school social work was starting to get routine. Private practice allowed me to explore my clinical interests, deepen my skills as a therapist, and find what client work really fired me up.
Being paid commensurate with my expertise was also life-changing. I bought my dream condo as my first home all while working for just an hour or two extra a day after school. I found a love for travel because for the first time ever, I had the money to do it. I even got to buy back my most precious commodity—time—by investing in luxuries like a housekeeper.
And then one day I realized that I could make my entire school social work salary in fewer than fifteen hours a week. When you work for yourself, the possibilities are limitless. You have the opportunity to customize your schedule, daily activities, and compensation to meet your personal and financial goals all while prioritizing client needs.

So with the education system in turmoil all around me and after two and a half stable years living off just my private practice income while saving my entire school social work salary, I took the leap to full-time self-employment.
